Mats Rondin (1960-2014) started playing the cello at the age of seven. He studied with some of the finest cellists in the world, including Erling Blöndahl Bengtson, Frans Helmerson, William Pleeth, Ralph Kirshbaum and Mstislav Rostropovich.
Since his début in 1976 he performed with all the Swedish symphony orchestras as well as the leading orchestras in Scandinavia, France, Germany, The Czech Republic, Italy, Slovakia and The Netherlands (at the renowned Concertgebouw in Amsterdam).
Mats Rondin was a passionate performer and conductor of chamber music, with an exceptionally extensive and diverse repertoire. He performed as a soloist and in different musical constellations (duo, trio…) in concerts throughout Europe.
From 1982 to 1985 he was the cello soloist of the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. From 1985 to 1998 he held the same position in the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Mats Rondin was a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and he also held the post of Lecturer in Music at the Malmö Academy of Music at Lund University.
Mats Rondin played in the Relay Orchestra on their CD Relay. He was also a member of Peter Danemo's Meloscope Deluxe.
